Urban Kitchen of Yakima is a free business and culinary school in Yakima, working with at-risk teens to create a sense of pride, family and skills. The program is 4 months long, and at completion, the students have the opportunity to run their own pop-up restaurant for 3 nights. They also graduate with their chef coat and a quality set of kitchen knives.

The program was started in 2017, when Yakima was facing a barrage of violent crimes. Shawn Niles saw an opportunity, and created the Urban Kitchen of Yakima program with David Allan of Allan Brothers Fruit and Chef Julie Kirchoff, a classically trained graduate of Le Cordon Bleu.

Currently, the program has graduated 3 classes, and continues to grow in opportunities throughout the community of Yakima thanks to the hard work of Chef Julie, David Allan and the rest of the Urban Kitchen of Yakima team.
